I own a few pairs of jeans made from Japanese denim, and I love the quality and diversity those pieces offer. With that being said, my favorite pants of all time are made from Cone Mills White Oak selvage denim. The fabric is fading beautifully with a strength that’s sure to last for years to come. Sadly, the White Oak Plant has been closed, which (unless I’ve been misinformed) puts an end to American selvage denim production. It’s a crying shame.
The process of breaking in raw denim clothes can be fairly addictive. A well worn pair of jeans wears you as much as you wear it… The look is personalized and well earned. Although the jeans featured in this photograph are still in their early stages, the news of White Oak’s closure makes me want a new pair. A piece of American selvage history to save for the future.
